Violence: At its heart, The Staff of the Dagda is a story about war and what prolonged conflict does to good people. The novel contains frequent fantasy violence, including hand-to-hand fighting, battles with supernatural creatures, weapons, magical combat, injuries, blood, and characters being placed in mortal danger. There are also references to torture. While some scenes can be intense, the violence is not described in prolonged, gory, or gratuitously graphic detail.
Suspense and frightening imagery: The story features monsters and other creatures inspired by Celtic mythology, including shapeshifters and occasionally grotesque creatures. Scenes include pursuit, disappearances, supernatural threats, characters being hunted or captured, and frightening dream or vision sequences.
